1999-08-01 Day seven in Kalamazoo arrives with the threat of afternoon rain and just eight players remaining in both the 18 and 16 singles draw.The top two seeds in both divisions, Phillip King/Mardy Fish (18s) and Jesse Witten/Robby Ginerpri (16s), have made it to the quarter finals. The only unseeded player to survive is Chris Martin (Tulsa, OK).
Half of the quarter final matches in both divisions will be played at Stowe Stadium today. David Martin, Chris' brother and fifth seed, will play Andy Roddick (Boca Raton, FL) while York Allen (McLean, VA) faces off against second seed Mardy Fish (Vero Beach, FL). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
In the 16s division, third seed Hamid Mirzadeh (Lake Worth, FL) will play fifth seed Ryan Heinburg (Agoura Hills, CA) while second seed Robby Ginerpri (Marietta, GA) will try to fend off eleventh seed Brian Wright (Fresno, CA). Both matches begin at 10:00 a.m.

Intermittent Rain Prevents Completion Of Today's Scheduled 16s Singles Quarter-Finals
1999-08-01 As expected, the rain arrived at mid-day suspending play with one quarter-final match completed. Second seed Robby Ginepri (Marietta, GA) ousted eleventh seed Brian Wright (Fresno, CA) 6-3, 6-2. The Heinburg/Mirzadeh quarter-final match was suspended in the third set.As of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, 16 doubles quarter-final action was underway at Markin.

1999-08-01 Quarter-final action wrapped up Friday afternoon in both the 16 and 18 divisions.In 18s action, top seed Phillip King took a tough match from Nicholas Rainey (14) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; second seed Mardy Fish defeated Yorke Allen (22) 6-4, 6-3; fifth seed David Martin knocked off fourth seed Andy Roddick 6-1, 6-4; and tenth seed Tres Davis eliminated Chris Martin 7-5, 6-2.
In 16s action, top seed Jesse Witten won another close match defeating Rajeev Ram (25) 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9); second seed Robby Ginepri ousted Brian Wright (11) 6-3, 6-2; fifth seed Ryan Heinberg squeaked by third seed Hamid Mirzadeh 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (3); and sixteenth seed Ytai Abougzir upset fourth seed Sam Warburg 7-6 (5), 6-3
Semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, 16s beginning at 11:00 a.m. and 18s at 12:30 p.m.

Pairing off in Saturday's 18s finals match will be Michael Calkins and John Paul Fruttero (9) against LeVar Harper-Griffith and Andy Roddick (4). In the 16s division, the finals will feature Stephen Amritraj and Sam Warburg (2) against Ytai Abougzir and Robby Ginepri (6).
In 18s semi-final action, ninth seeds Michael Calkins (Portland, OR) and John Paul Fruttero (San Marino, CA) defeated unseeded Troy Hahn (Indianapolis, IN) and Alastair Jenkin (Boca Raton, FL) 7-6 (5), 6-1. The fourth seeded duo of LeVar Harper-Griffith (Sarasota, FL) and Andy Roddick (Boca Raton, FL) eliminated Ryan Haymond (Bakersfield, CA) and Carl McCafferty (Highland, CA) 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Top Seeds To Face Off In Tomorrow's 18 Singles Final
1999-08-01 Top seeded Phillip King (Long Beach, CA) will face second seed Mardy Fish (Vero Beach, FL) in Sunday's 18s singles finals.King marched past tenth seeded Tres Davis (Austin, TX) 6-1, 6-3 in today's first 18s semi-final match. Fish eliminated fifth seed David Martin (Tulsa, OK) 6-7(8), 7-5, 6-0 in this afternoon's second semi-final match which ended shortly after 3:00 p.m.

Abougzir-Ginepri Win Doubles Title; Face Each Other In Singles Final

Both won their respective semi-final matches and advanced to tomorrow's final, then they paired up to win the 1999 doubles title in the 16's division. The sixth seeded Abougzir and Ginepri beat second seeds Stephen Armritraj (Calabasas, CA) and Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) in two sets 6-3, 6-4.In the 18 doubles final, fourth seeds LeVar Harper-Griffith (Sarasota, FL) and Andy Roddick (Boca Raton, FL) defeated ninth seeds Michael Calkins (Portland, OR) and John Paul Fruttero (San Marino, CA) 6-2, 6-2 to earn the 18's title.

Ginepri Captures 16's Singles Championship
1999-08-01 Robby Ginepri (Marietta, GA) captured his second title in as many days by winning the 1999 16's Singles Championship 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Ginepri beat his doubles title partner Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, FL) in a grueling three set match on Sunday afternoon.The last time anyone duplicated Ginepri's dual title feat in Kalamazoo was five years ago when both Mike Russell (16s) and Paul Goldstein (18s) captured both the singles and double title in 1994.
