Kalamazoo Area Players Take the Courts Tuesday

Nick Rinks of Kalamazoo faces his toughest challenge at Tuesday morning, as he is scheduled to play 4th seed in the 16 singles draw, Timothy Neilly of Bradenton FL. The match is scheduled for 11 AM at Stowe Stadium. Rinks advanced to the fourth round matchup by defeating William Gray of Tulsa OK 6-2, 6-2 in front of a large lunchtime crowd.

Rinks and partner Vahid Mirzadeh of Wellington FL, the 9th seed in the 16 doubles draw, advanced to Tuesday's fourth round by defeating partners Blake Muller of Santa Barbara CA and Gary Sacks of Calabasas Hills CA 6-1, 6-4. Doubles action begins at 3 PM at Stowe Stadium Tuesday.

Portage?s Scott Oudsema faced off against fourth seed Robert Yim of Glendale, CA in boys 18 singles on Monday. Buoyed by a large and vocal crowd, Oudsema took the first set, winning a tiebreak 7-2. However, Yim adjusted to Oudsema's power game and won the next two sets 6-2, 6-3. Oudsema is still alive in the 18 doubles draw; he and partner Phillip Simmonds of Reston VA will play the 9th seeded tandem Stephen Bass of Bronxville NY and Christopher Brown of Potomac MD on Tuesday. Doubles matches are scheduled to begin at 3 PM at Stowe Stadium.
